6 Pizza Creations You Can Make with Sonoma Gourmet Jarred Pizza Sauce

July 09, 2021

Let’s clear something up. Pizza. Sauce. Is. Not. Pasta. Sauce.

We can understand the confusion. The good news is just one taste of Sonoma Heirloom Tomato Pizza Sauce will allow you to understand why these fresh flavors are the perfect topping for your next pizza creation — so you can ditch the standard sauce.

Organic tomatoes, sweet basil, and earthy oregano are all pureed into a perfectly smooth sauce. Pair with any savory dough and an unlimited amount of toppings.

If you’re looking to switch up your weekly pizza night, we have six mouthwatering recipes you can make in a snap.

1. Mighty Aphrodite Pizza

Named after the goddess of love herself, you’re sure to adore this pizza if you’re a fan of classic Greek flavors. Our pizza sauce is the perfect foundation for toppings that include grilled chicken, kalamata olives, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, a bit of red onion, and a shredded cheese blend.

While you can make your own pizza dough (it’s surprisingly easy), we recommend purchasing some from a local bakery or supermarket for a simpler solution — and you can even freeze it in bulk! The trick to cooking the perfect pizza is by heating your oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit (or as high as it will go). This will give you a crispy crust on the outside and perfectly cooked dough on the inside.

If you’re worried about any ingredients burning, you can always add in pre-cooked ingredients to your pie when it’s fresh out of the oven.

2. Burrata, Sage & Sausage Pizza

Burrata is an underrated Italian cheese that is the star of our Burrata, Sage & Sausage Pizza recipe. Its soft shell and creamy center delights your taste buds. Think of burrata like a smoother and milder mozzarella!

The first thing you’ll want to do for this recipe is brown some Italian sausage in a pan with a dash of olive oil, then prepare your cheese, sage, basil, and fennel seeds. Once your oven is preheated and your dough is ready to go, add pizza sauce and then lay down all of your toppings.

Because the pizza cooks at a high temp., it will be done in as little as 10 minutes. While it’s tempting to grab a slice right away, it’s worth waiting a few minutes before taking your first, ever-so-slightly-sizzling bite.

3. Prosciutto Arugula Pizza

You only need six ingredients to whip up our Prosciutto Arugula Pizza. The secret sauce here isn’t a sauce at all — it’s our Basil & Parmesan Olive Oil. Brush the oil onto your rolled-out dough to infuse extra earthy flavors and create a perfectly crunchy crust.

Then, all you need to add is some mozzarella cheese, prosciutto, a couple of handfuls of fresh arugula, and you have a pizza that plays up these fresh flavors. Make sure to not cook the prosciutto and arugula with your pie, but instead place them on your pizza after it comes out of the oven. The heat from the crust will warm the ingredients without compromising their flavor and texture.

If you want to add a little something sweet, a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette pairs well with the salty meat, creamy cheese, and slightly peppery greens.

4. Skillet Pan Pizza

Put your cast iron skillet to good use by creating our Skillet Pan Pizza that your entire family is sure to devour. Start by browning some spicy Italian ground sausage (or pork or chicken). When that’s done, lay your dough down in the same pan — no rinsing needed — so it can be seasoned with all those delectable drippings.

Top the dough with pizza sauce, garlic, shredded mozzarella, and sliced cremini mushrooms. The trick to nailing this recipe is to cook the bottom of the crust for a few minutes in the cast iron skillet until it gets golden brown and crisp, then make a quick transfer to the oven.

Once the sauce is bubbling, turn off the oven and pull out your pan. Top the pie with some red pepper flakes, fresh basil, and hot honey to your liking. Make the pizza your way — hot and spicy... or not.

5. Southwest Pizza

Want an international fusion for your pizza night? We love this Southwest Pizza recipe from Ready Set Eat.

Start by combining our organic pizza sauce with some taco seasoning and black beans. Then, brown some beef or chicken for your toppings. Get creative with this recipe by adding corn, red onion, and even some sliced jalapeños to complement the cheese blend.

6. Garden Pizza

Finally, we can’t end this list without mentioning a vegetarian pizza for all the veggie lovers. This informal recipe is great if you just made a trip to the farmer’s market, need to use up some greens in your fridge, or have a few too many veggies growing in your garden.

Use any pizza dough and our organic sauce to start — then get creative with your garden toppings. Tomatoes, carrots, and zucchini? Why not! Mushrooms, peppers, and baby spinach? Yes, please. You can load this pizza up with a little or as many greens you love, and don’t forget to add some fresh herbs for the finishing touch.
