Choose Vegan & Gluten-Free With Sonoma Gourmet

July 09, 2021

Finding gluten-free and vegan recipes that are tasty and easy to prepare can be a challenge — especially when you’re craving something carby, creamy, and comforting.

We understand that many of your favorite recipes (and especially sauces) have hidden gluten or animal products in them. That’s why we’ve collected some of our favorite vegan and gluten-free dishes that are sure to tickle your taste buds while fitting within your dietary choices or restrictions.

Here are 4 vegan and gluten-free recipes you can make at home with sauces or oils from Sonoma Gourmet:

1. Vegan Butternut Squash Soup

Let’s start with the ultimate comfort food: A warm, flavorful bowl of soup. Our recipe for a vegan-friendly butternut squash soup tastes like autumn feels and needs just a few hearty ingredients. So, dig out your Dutch oven and get ready for the cozy.

To start, you’ll add olive oil, onions, mushrooms, and salt and pepper. Let them saute for about 5 minutes. Next comes the main attraction, our Butternut Squash Sauce, along with some vegetable stock and just a few tablespoons of coconut milk (or your favorite plant-based milk) for added creaminess. Bring ‘em all to a simmer and, if you’re feeling spicy, add in more salt and pepper to taste.

Grab a bowl and dish up your serving. Top it off with a pinch of cilantro, coconut milk, and olive oil, and enjoy the comfort of a vegan and gluten-free bowl of deliciousness. We love to pair this with sourdough bread for an extra filling meal.

2. Vegan One-Pot Pasta

Pasta is one of the ultimate comfort foods, and this vegan recipe from The Recipe Well showcases it in all its glory. While this specific recipe calls for creating your own sauce, one of our vegan pasta sauces (like Sonoma Gourmet Roasted Veggie Sauce) also pairs well with these flavors.

The trick to making this pasta flavorful is by cooking it in vegetable broth while adding in sliced roasted peppers, red pepper flakes, salt, oregano, and some nutritional yeast (a staple in many vegan recipes for added creaminess). Cook your pasta to taste — ideally al dente.

Now comes the easy part: Simply stir in your favorite vegan pasta sauce, some fresh baby spinach, and enjoy! This comforting dish is also easy to clean up, so you don’t have to worry about washing too many dishes after your hearty meal.

3. Veggie Shakshuka

Our Veggie Shakshuka recipe is perfect for using up ingredients you likely already have in your fridge or pantry. The best part? It’s also naturally gluten-free and can be adapted to be vegan. Start by cooking your veggies in a large pot over medium heat, stirring often, until the onions are tender. Then, add garlic until fragrant (this usually only takes a minute).

The pièce de résistance is Sonoma Gourmet Cherry Tomato Basil Sauce, which is both gluten-free and vegan. With this, you’ll also add cilantro, parsley, and spinach to the veggie mix. Let everything simmer and cook for five minutes.

This is where you’ll go a bit rouge to get your vegan bite. In the authentic (and still gluten-free) version, you would use the back of a spoon to make wells around the outer edge of the sauce, crack eggs directly into them, then cover it all with some tomato sauce. To keep this recipe vegan, you can skip this part or use your favorite plant-based egg substitute instead.

Then, transfer the pot to the oven and cook for about 8 minutes. Top everything with some vegan crumbed feta, or serve with crusty bread.

4. Vegan & Gluten-Free Pizza

Digging into a tasty pizza that’s vegan and gluten-free is a powerful experience. The first thing you’ll need to do is find (or make!) some quality pizza dough. While traditional dough is typically vegan, it’s not usually gluten-free. We recommend finding an alternative, such as this crust made of chickpeas that’s vegan and made without flour.

Sonoma Gourmet Heirloom Tomato Pizza Sauce is the perfect topping. The fresh organic tomatoes, sweet basil, and earthy oregano pureed into a perfectly smooth gluten-free and vegan sauce is sure to pair well with whatever dough you choose. From there, you can really get creative. Add in your favorite veggies and vegan cheese, or better yet, let everyone create their own personalized pizza for the night!
